Third Thursday Food for Thought Presentation – “Great Moments in Dendrochronology: Important Achievements of Tree-Ring Science”
October 19, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Old Pueblo Archaeology Center’s “Third Thursday Food for Thought” dinner will feature the presentation “Great Moments in Dendrochronology: Important Achievements of Tree-Ring Science” by dendrochronologist Dr. Paul R. Sheppard at El Molinito Mexican Restaurant, 10180 N. Oracle Rd., Oro Valley, Arizona, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. As a scientific discipline, dendrochronology, otherwise known as tree-ring science, is just over 100 years old. In that time, several important scientific findings have been achieved that can be considered “great moments” (a nod to Disneyland and Mr. Lincoln). It is useful to review great achievements of science in their own right, as they usually have interesting twists and turns along the way from start to the point of being identified as important. Additionally, reviewing multiple great moments allows for identifying shared characteristics between them that make them great and therefore could serve as guidelines for current and future research to strive to meet to also be considered notable, i.e., great. We’ll look into a couple great moments of dendrochronology of the past as well as a current research project that might attain the level of being an important achievement.
Reservations are required: info@oldpueblo.org or 520-798-1201. PLEASE WAIT TO HEAR FROM OLD PUEBLO THAT YOUR RESERVATION HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BEFORE ATTENDING because the Fire Code limits how many guests we can have in the restaurant meeting room. Reservations must be requested before 5 p.m. on the Wednesday before the program date. Guests may select and purchase their own dinners from the restaurant’s menu. There is no entry fee but donations will be requested to benefit Old Pueblo’s educational efforts.
