“The Hohokam Culture of Southern Arizona” Online Adult Education Class

September 9 @ 6:30 pm - December 16 @ 8:30 pm

Old Pueblo Archaeology Center will be sponsoring “The Hohokam Culture of Southern Arizona” 14-session Zoom adult education class, each Wednesday from September 9-December 16, 2026. Taught by archaeologist Allen Dart, these classes will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm ARIZONA/Mountain Standard Time (same as Pacific Daylight Time through Oct. 28), except skip October 21.

Registered Professional Archaeologist Allen Dart teaches this class in 14 two-hour sessions to explore the archaeology of the ancient Hohokam culture of the American Southwest. The class covers Hohokam origins, subsistence and settlement systems, social and organizational systems, material culture including ceramics, other artifacts, and architecture, interaction within and beyond the Hohokam culture’s regional boundaries, and ideas on religion and exchange. Minimum enrollment 10 people.

The class meets the requirements of the Arizona Archaeological Society’s Training, Certification and Education program’s “Advanced Southwest Archaeology–Hohokam” course. To qualify for the AAS Certification the student must submit a brief written or video research report. The AAS basic “Archaeology of the Southwest” class is recommended as a prerequisite but this is negotiable with the instructor. For information on the AAS Certification Program, go to Certification Program under Activities on the AAS website, http://www.azarchsoc.org.

The fee for this 14-session class is $109 per person. Reservations and prepayment are due 10 days after reservation request or by 12 pm Arizona time Friday September 4, whichever is earlier. To register or for more information contact Old Pueblo at info@oldpueblo.org or 520-798-1201.
