“Southwestern Rock Calendars and Ancient Time Pieces”
December 15, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This free presentation is sponsored by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Salt River Community Building, 1880 N. Longmore Road, Scottsdale (just north of the intersection of McDowell Road and Longmore) on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Native Americans in the Southwest developed sophisticated skills in astronomy and predicting the seasons, centuries before Old World peoples first entered the region. In this presentation archaeologist Allen Dart discusses the petroglyphs at Picture Rocks, the architecture of the “Great House” at Arizona’s Casa Grande Ruins, and other archaeological evidence of ancient southwestern astronomy and calendrical reckoning; and interprets how these discoveries may have related to ancient Native American rituals. This is not an Old Pueblo Archaeology Center event. For more information contact Shane Anton at 480-362-6331 or shane.anton@srpmic-nsn.gov.
